Day-to-day Friction
Israel and Palestine
Violence grabs the headlines but what is day-to-day life like in Palestine? My understanding was dramatically changed by an article describing how it takes hours to go 15 miles through 5 or more checkpoints? Is this the extent of the issue ... or is ongoing humiliation the routine as claimed by the Palestinians? How many articles like these ever appear in your newspaper?

Settlers destroy 100 olive trees
Settlers destroy 100 olive trees: "Settlers destroy 100 olive trees

TAWNA, West Bank, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A group of Palestinians in the Hebron Hills on the West Bank has accused Israeli settlers of destroying 100 olive trees.

Children from the village of Tawna discovered the uprooted trees, Ha'aretz reported, and told the family that owned the grove. Police investigated on Friday and told the family to file a formal complaint.

In the past year, Palestinian-owned olive groves have been attacked on dozens of occasions, the newspaper said, and 1,000 trees have been destroyed in the past month. Yesh Din, a legal services organization for Palestinians, filed 15 complaints between April and November last year.
